Sidney Cornwell was born in Isleham in 1918 (Newmarket Q2-1918 3B:712) son of Lewis and Susan Elizabeth CORNWELL (née AUDUS).

In 1939 his family was in Sun Street, Isleham. Being in a supply unit there was little chance of discovering where or how exactly Sydney died. Even finding the whereabouts of 57th Brigade has proved impossible. The fighting in North Africa had ended some months earlier. One report in the Bury Free Press recorded that he had died after being in an accident, the other, seen below, adds a little to the story.
